Putting a Hole in the Wall is one of 9 mini golf holes, as part of Doug Fishbones Leisure Land Golf, commissioned for the 56th Venice Biennale as part of the East Midlands (EM15) Pavillion in 2015. My mini golf hole invites players to navigate their golf ball through a series of inflexible and concrete-clad checkpoints, boundaries and border controls in a bid to finally putt the ball through the division wall. The golf hole replicates various aspects of the day-to-day reality within contested territories under occupation, exploring separation barriers as a historical and universal means to control and limit the movement of people worldwide.
After Venice it toured to the New Art Exchange from April -June 2016, and Quad Gallery, Derby from July-Sept 2016. Other artists golf holes included John Akomfrah, Eyal Wiezman, Ellie Harrison, Hetain Patel and Yinka Shonibare.
The Guardian wrote that our Leisure Land Golf was one of the TOP art attractions for summer 2016. And it was the pick of the week, for the Royal Academy! Below is a Golfing World video on the exhibition.
